Day 2

Weight: 14 stone 13 pounds (95 kg)
Lost: 2lb
Awoke this morning with a pounding headache and a queasy feeling in my stomach. It felt like I’d been crawling round the bars all night drinking whisky (if only) and now I´m paying for it with a dreadful hangover….welcome to the world of detox. I think my body has gone into shock as it didn't receive its daily dose of alcohol, chocolate, bread, cheese, crisps, biscuits (typing this is making me hungry) and anything else that my body can store as fat. So my bod has gotten its own back on me and given me a fruit and salad hangover.
I staggered into the bathroom and out of habit grabbed a couple of ibuprofen tablets, shoved them down my throat and then I realised that this will be something else to detox now! Not just food and drink but those little pills that help you get through the day while trying to manage a headache or period pain. They all need to be purged from my body. So it’s “Be kind to me day” today by staying in bed till lunchtime with a cup of herbal tea and fruit, then prep an salad for lunch and retire to the couch or bed (depending on how I feel) to read. I’ m halfway through an Esther and Jerry Hicks book “Money and the law of attraction - Learning to attract wealth and health and happiness”. A real positive, feel I can achieve anything kind of book, and just what I need right now.
Yesterday was the first day of my new raw lifestyle and it was surprisingly easy… though I’m not going to be tricked into thinking that it’s always going to be that way. There will be days where I will have to tough it out (like today) but I feel that the bloated feeling has gone and I’m starting to deflate….wonderful. I also slept better and woke up with my arms above my head which I read somewhere is a sign of contentment…or is it just that you´re hot? Anyway, until I had to lift my head off the pillow, my body did feel a lot better.
My first day did involve exercise….I walked the dogs for an hour in the morning.
Breakfast: Apple then a banana.
Midmorning snack: Medjool dates x 4
Lunch: Salad consisting of lettuce, carrot, celery, cucumber, tomato, black olives and green pepper. Dash of olive oil.
Mid-afternoon snack: Handful of Brazil nuts.
Dinner: Salad with lettuce, carrot, green pepper, tomato, dried dates and sunflower seeds. Olive oil and a splodge of hummus (not raw). Also had a rice paper wrap with cucumber and hoi sin sauce (Yes I know that’s not raw either…give me a break it’s my first day!) Poco a poco (little by little) as they say in Spain. I plan to make raw hummus and a raw pate to go with my lovely salads.
Sitting outside on the covered terrace I have my dusty dehydrator which I bought years ago during my raw dabbling period and now lies idle on top of the tumble dryer collecting dust and cat hairs - I have 6 cats. This tends to happen when you live in the Spanish Campo (countryside). I will be putting my dehydrator to good use by making raw crackers and other delicious things, which I need to find out about how to make…as of tomorrow. As that old saying goes “Put off today what you can do tomorrow”… yes, I think that’s right.
Please catch my next installment tomorrow.
Hasta pronto xx
